Softball World Series Becomes Ensconced in Sussex County

Mike Finney had a story in the News Journal last month.  

All about #2 Laurel's Stephanie Wheatley pitching in a big game yesterday, and how appearing in the circle in the ESPN Televised World Series last year maybe helped prepare her for #3 Smyrna.

Not to worry, she got the win but had to hit a home run to do it.

Its about the Laurel Softball team's rise in Delaware HS Softball?

A few years back, we commented on the three Delaware All State Softball selectees who had played in the Little League World Series back when they were 15 and 16.

Well, it seems that many of the girls on last year's runner up team are now contributing to the success of Laurel High School's Softball Bulldogs.

Almost all of the Laurel girls mentioned in the story have played in the World Series down in Roxana. World Series veterans Brooke Evans, Steph Wheatley, Alexis Oliphant and Jenna Cahall were featured in the story and were on the field during last year's heartbreaking loss.

Softball "insiders" in District 3 figure that a new team might represent the Host in the 2010 series, but if Laurel keeps on developing talent...
