Two Alumni Heading to Del Tech for Softball The list of Little League Senior Softball World Series alumni playing at the next level got a little longer today, with the announcement that Bree Venables of Laurel, Delaware has signed to play softball with the Delaware Technical and Community College Lady Roadrunners in Georgetown, DE
She will join fellow World Series championship Alum, Bethany Wheatley at the school.
Both Venables (IF) and Wheatley (OF) played on the 2011 Senior Softball World Championship team.
Venables batted .231 with two doubles and 3 RBIs in 6 games. Wheatley led all batters with a .476 batting average, 6 runs scored, two doubles and 3 RBI's. Both played error free ball during the tournament.
Coached by Michelle West, the Delaware Tech Lady Roadrunners last year featured 8 former members of the District III World Series Host teams from the Laurel Little League. Jenna Cahall, Stephanie Wheatley, Kelsey Oliphant, Melissa Trout, Taylor Oliphant, Brooke Evans, Alexis Oliphant and Yasmin Davis all played previously in the August World Series tournaments in Delaware.
| George W. Cahill (1958-2012) RIPThe Senior Softball World Series committee lost another original member Wednesday, (February 1st) with the death of George William Cahill.
George Cahill had been on the District III Little League staff as treasurer since 1996, and was the original treasurer of the World Series Committee.
In addition, he was one of the coordinators of the annual Delaware Little League Pat Knight tournament and helped bring those softball games to the World Series location.
He was also active in Pop Warner Football.
George Cahill is survived by his wife, Mary and two daughters, Kelly and Carey. His funeral was Saturday.
